This page explains how CLEANINGUY evaluates and compares commercial floor-cleaning equipment. We update it whenever our process changes.

Our approach

CLEANINGUY is a buying-advisory site, not a testing lab. We do not physically test machines in a controlled lab environment. Instead, we build every comparison from manufacturer-published specifications, verified current pricing, warranty documentation, and how those specs map to real facility use cases — then we cite our sources so you can check our work.

We are affiliated with SUNMAX and SANITMAX through common ownership, and we may earn a commission when you purchase through links on this site. That relationship does not change what we publish: our comparisons include competing brands, and we correct our own content when we find an error. Read our full disclosure →

How we score a comparison

When we rank or compare machines, we weigh five factors:

Factor Weight What we check
Facility fit 25% Does the cleaning width, tank size, and drive type match the square footage and layout it’s recommended for?
Published specifications 25% Cleaning width, productivity (sq ft/hr), tank capacity, battery type and runtime — verified against the manufacturer’s own product page at the time of writing.
Purchase price & value 20% Current advertised price, checked against the manufacturer’s site on the date noted in the article, compared to published pricing for comparable machines.
Warranty & parts availability 15% What the warranty actually covers, and whether wear parts (brushes, pads, squeegees, batteries) are stocked domestically or overseas.
Service & support coverage 15% Whether support comes from a dealer network, direct manufacturer support, or both, and what that means for response time.

We don’t run a hands-on testing category because we don’t conduct hands-on testing. If that changes, this page and every affected article will say so explicitly, with details on what was tested, by whom, and how.

Where our data comes from

  • Manufacturer product pages — our primary source for specs and current pricing.
  • Manufacturer FAQ and support documentation — for compatibility, chemical/floor-type guidance, and warranty terms.
  • Government and regulatory sources — OSHA, EPA, and similar agencies, cited directly, for any article referencing compliance requirements.
  • Third-party retailer and marketplace listings (Amazon, Walmart, authorized dealers) — used to cross-check pricing or fill in specs a manufacturer’s own page doesn’t list.
  • Published industry guides and cost data — for general benchmarks (like typical rental rates or comparable machine categories) that aren’t specific to any one brand.

We link to the specific source for any claim that isn’t self-evident, and we note the date pricing was checked, since manufacturer pricing changes.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t fabricate customer testimonials, case studies, or first-person testing accounts.
  • We don’t claim a specific number of years of hands-on industry experience.
  • We don’t state that two machines “perform identically” unless we can point to matching specs across every relevant dimension — when specs differ, we say so and let you compare.
  • We don’t use unsourced superlatives like “best,” “trusted,” or “tested” without being able to back them up.

When we get something wrong

Manufacturer specs and pricing change, and we sometimes make mistakes. When we catch an error — ours or a source’s — we correct the article and note what changed. If you spot something that looks wrong, let us know and we’ll check it.
